Creating and managing groups

Working with Groups

Groups are the fundamental units of analysis in Museformer. Each group represents a distinct section or element of the music you're analyzing.

Creating Groups

There are several ways to create a new group:

  • Click the "+" button in the toolbar
  • Press "G" to create a group at the current playhead
  • Right-click on the timeline and select "Add Group"
  • Double-click on an empty area of the timeline

Editing Groups

Click on any group to select it. Once selected, you can:

  • Drag the group to move it along the timeline
  • Drag the edges to resize it
  • Use the properties panel to edit name, color, and notes
  • Press Delete to remove the group

Nesting Groups

For complex analyses, you can nest groups within each other. This is useful for showing hierarchical relationships, like movements containing themes containing phrases.

Color coding
Use consistent colors for similar sections across your analysis. For example, always use blue for "A" sections and red for "B" sections to make patterns easier to spot.
